The North County Waves were formed in 1995 by Doug Johnson and Mike Studer as a Men's League All-Star and Travel team. In their first year of existence the Waves joined the National Baseball Congress (NBC) and have been a member ever since. As the team progressed over the years the Waves have become a summer collegiate team with a few ex-college and minor league players mixed in. The Waves were one of the six original franchises in the newly formed Western Semi-Pro Baseball Association in 1998. They finished in 2nd place in both 1999-2000. In 2000 the Waves qualified for their first NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas by winning the NBC Western Regional in San Diego. In the World Series the Waves finished in a very respectable 17th place. In 2001 the Waves won their first league championship and once again qualified for the NBC World Series. The Waves made a great run at the tournament championship before settling for 3rd place. In 2002 the Waves won the Western Semi-Pro Baseball Association title once again, but finished a disappointing 17th at the NBC World Series.
